12:18. Wheels and tires12.18.1. Technical characteristics
The S-class Mercedes models, depending on the equipment, are equipped with tires and wheels of various sizes. The size, along with rim width, determines also press fitting depth. Depth of a press fitting represents the size from the middle of a rim to a wheel niche prileganiye surface to a brake disk. All disk wheels have the pressed ledge which at very sharp driving on turns prevents the rim pressure upon the tubeless tire. If tires and / or ободья which are not specified in the passport of the car are installed, it is necessary to bring them in the passport. For this purpose, as a rule, permission to their use from Mercedes is necessary. All data on pressure of air are provided for cold tires. The increase in pressure resulting from long driving in tires on 0,2 bars should not be pitted. Air pressure in the tire of a spare wheel corresponds to the maximum pressure at full loading. Prevention Air pressure in tires is specified also in a sticker on a cover of the fuel tank. Prevention As winter tires provide restriction of speed, the driver has to know the instructions concerning admissible highest speed. Marking of disks Example: 6 J x 15 H2 ET31: 6 = wheel rim width in inches Marking of tires Example: /70 = height relation to width (height of cross section of the tire makes 70% of width) If the specified ratios of cross section are absent (for example, 155R13), then in this case the "normal" ratio height/width takes place. It makes 82% for radial tires. N = class of speed, N: to 210 km/h (for new tires it is specified not always). R = a radial design (= the radial tire) 14 = diameter of a rim in inches 89 = an index of the bearing ability. N = alphabetic reference of admissible highest speed. Prevention Alphabetic reference of speed Alphabetic reference of speed costs after designation of the size of the tire. Symbols of designation of speed belong both to summer, and to winter tires.
Date of production of tires Date of production is specified on the tire in a code of the manufacturer. Example: DOT CUL2 of UM8 064 TUBELESS DOT = U.S. Department of Transportation The sizes of wheels and tires/pressure of air in tires
